The British government said on Friday (3 January) it will implement an action plan to help prevent future power disruptions after an outage in August last year that affected more than 1 million customers, writes Nina Chestney.

A government-backed report was commissioned into the outage and has recommended 10 actions to reduce the likelihood of a similar event happening again.

These include assessing the need for improvements to the governance, monitoring and enforcement processes for large and smaller generators; and reviewing the pros and cons of the National Grid Electricity System Operator (ESO) holding additional back-up generation.

Business and Energy Secretary Andrea Leadsom confirmed that the action plan would be implemented in full.
