Đức Giáo Hoàng Francis (Ảnh) led a prayer service in international solidarity for Ukraine and other countries affected by war. 

Worshippers at shrines in Syria, Iraq, and Syria were linked by video, and Catholics from around the globe were asked to pray simultaneously.

The service was attended by approximately 1,000 people, including the Ukrainian ambassador at the Vatican and many others wearing the blue and white colours of the Ukrainian flag.

Francis asked Mary to reconcile hearts full of violence and vendetta before praying the Rosary.

Francis, who made many appeals for peace in Ukraine after Russia invaded its neighbor in February, is currently suffering from knee pain. He has been using a wheelchair since the last few weeks.

He stopped at the church to meet other wheelchair users, including a young boy with a Ukrainian flag on his neck, as he was about to leave.
